I have tried the following steps but they have not been useful to solve the problem. However, I am able to get thumbnails when the same documents are saved as. I am not able to get thumbnails of documents of type. I have the same problem as reported by Andwan. Or has thumbnail preview for Office 2016 documents being removed from Windows Explorer as of the July 2017 updates?

The only solution that works is to uninstall Office 2016 and install the original RTM build version.
